Here she is! My Sweet Caroline (yes, just the one Neil Diamond sang about)! She is a 1973 Airstream Excella 500 and she’s the most perfect tin can I have ever laid my eyes on.

My Sweet Caroline! It was love at first sight!

I’ve wanted an Airstream since the very first time I saw one. It’s a timeless piece of history – an American classic! However, the price tag on the new ones = INSANE! Our 43′ Momentum TH cost as much and it’s 5x bigger… (yes, I know. It’s not the ‘same thing’) BUT still. I couldn’t convince Mr. Blake to get a new one with their going price tag.

We took the dually to pick her up – she didn’t have any working trailer brakes!

That leads me to a bucket list item – to completely restore a vintage Airstream from the ground up… a.k.a. the ‘full monty.’ So, that’s exactly what my ol’ girl is getting!

We will be using the Raptor to tow Caroline when she’s road ready. Don’t they look good together?!
I think she’s ready to go home.

We found Caroline just outside of San Antonio, TX. Her most recent, prior owner planned on doing a total restoration also but life happened and now she’s mine! We drove 9.5 hours to get her, leaving from T or C, New Mexico. She did fantastic on our 710+ mile trip home. I-10 was good to her! Hardly any issues (one of her belly pans fell off 15 miles in). She made it back in 1 piece and now it’s time for the restoration process to begin!

If you want to see two rookies attempting to restore a ’73 Airstream, stay tuned! We’re doin’ it and I’m going to try to share the process – the good and the bad… and of course the learning curves we will face. I couldn’t be MORE EXCITED to get down and dirty to make my Sweet Caroline beautiful again!
