FINALLY!! The Airstream frame is DONE!
Just a quick update (because I’m SO excited!!) since we haven’t actually seen the frame – only in photos.
A recap: she has been sandblasted, taken apart, welded, reinforced and painted with a super fancy paint that won’t let her frame rust again… or so they say. (I will find out what brand it is and post it on here – we have yet to go pick her frame up). AND it’s been 10.5 weeks since we first brought her over to James the welder.
Here’s a before and after –
Such a difference. We had thought the original frame wasn’t going to work because she had a horrible sag issue on the drivers side. But James is a miracle worker! Crack is gone and so is the sag! 🙂
Now that her frame is ready, we can finally put down the subfloor. It’s going to be trail and error on this part of the project because our templets (the old subfloor) is falling apart from all the moisture. We also need to purchase some more c-channel which is incredibly hard to find…
We are also tossing up the idea of rebuilding the original axels OR purchasing new. Both are options that can be done… I’m leaning towards new.
We are in Yuma, AZ for the next 2 weeks then we will head back to the Butte. It’s finally time to get Caroline’s shell back on her frame!! 😀
